Scriptures That Helped Me in My Waiting Period

On the 2nd of September 2020, God showed me a vision that made me laugh.

I couldn’t bring myself to the reality of that vision.

Exactly one year after, the Lord spoke to me and said the month of September 2021 is my month of Laughter.

That seemed to me like a reminder.

I remember ignoring the vision that night after I woke up but the holy spirit told me to write it in my Journal. I did. I prayed more thereafter and saw other visions that showed that I needed to take what God was telling me seriously.

I have had to wait for manifestation, and truth be told, the waiting period wasn’t easy; but today I am grateful for all that God has done and is still doing.

There are certain scriptures that provided me comfort, assurance and encouragement while I waited and I’d love to share them with you.

What You Should Know

Before I share them however, I would like you to know that when God shows you a vision, it is always for an appointed time and you are often required to wait.

Habakkuk 2:3 NKJV says, ‘For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry’.

If God has told you something or you have a promise from Him, I encourage you to hold unto it firmly because God has the capacity to bring His word to fulfilment.

See what He said in Isaiah 46:10-11 NLT ‘Only I can tell you the future before it even happens. Everything I plan will come to pass, for I do whatever I wish. I will call a swift bird of prey from the east— a leader from a distant land to come and do my bidding. I have said what I would do, and I will do it’.

Abba’s antecedents shows that there’s nothing He cannot do. He is faithful, true and never ever fails. Yes, the waiting time may be tough and that’s why you need to pray, fast and read the word more.

Sometimes you will even feel down in your spirit, but you should always encourage yourself in the Lord like David did in 1 Samuel 30:6b KJV. Scripture says, ‘David encouraged himself in the Lord his God’.

In my period of waiting, I got to realize that of a truth, we are waiters in this Kingdom and every waiting period (arranged by God) always gives birth to a success story.

All we need to have a successful waiting period is embedded in the scripture. That’s why you must arm yourself with God’s word and anchor your heart on them.

The Scriptures That Helped Me

In line with this, Iet me highlight some of the scriptures that helped me in my waiting period. I am so confident that these will help someone too.

#1. Psalms 18:1 TPT

Lord, I passionately love you and I’m bonded to you, for now you’ve become my power!

#2. Romans 8:18 KJV

For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

#3. Romans 8:25 TPT

So because our hope is set on what is yet to be seen, we patiently keep on waiting for its fulfillment.

#4. Romans 8:24, 26-27 MSG

That is why waiting does not diminish us, any more than waiting diminishes a pregnant mother. We are enlarged in the waiting. Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God’s Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don’t know how or what to pray, it doesn’t matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God.

#5. Romans 8:28 KJV

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

#6. Romans 5:5 NLT

And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.

#7. Hebrews 10:36, 37, 39 TPT

You need the strength of endurance to reveal the poetry of God’s will and then you receive the promise in full. For soon and very soon, “The One who is appearing will come without delay!”

But we are certainly not those who are held back by fear and perish; we are among those who have faith and experience true life!

#8. Psalms 119:50, 52 TPT

In all of my affliction I find great comfort in your promises, for they have kept me alive! Your revelation-light is eternal; I’m encouraged every time I think about your truth!

#9. Psalms 89:34 NLT

No, I will not break my covenant; I will not take back a single word I said.

#10. Psalms 119:49 TPT

Lord, never forget the promises you’ve made to me, for they are my hope and confidence.

#11. Numbers 23:19 NLT

God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through?

#12. Habakkuk 3:17-18 GNT

Even though the fig trees have no fruit and no grapes grow on the vines, even though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no grain, even though the sheep all die and the cattle stalls are empty, I will still be joyful and glad, because the Lord God is my savior.

Finally, I find Hebrews 11 (using different versions) a very motivating passage of scripture. The narratives of men and women of old who through faith and patience did exploits for God and obtained His promises are highly inspiring.

Anyone in a waiting period should read Hebrews 11 again and again to draw courage and strength to hope, persist and endure.

A Final Word

Of a truth, the Bible is replete with scriptures that can galvanize the believer during a desperate period of waiting. I have only highlighted just a few here.

But there is more that you can find if you apply yourself to the word of God and make it your daily companion.

It is my prayer that God will strengthen you and grant you grace in your waiting period in Jesus name. Amen.
